Sounds like some kind of pansy cop-out doesn’t it? I don’t think so. I think it’s high time we took a much closer look at the way money really works.
Stop Complaining
There’s a lot of complaining out there about how unfair it is that we have an uneven distribution of wealth. First, I submit that those of you complaining are not really even referring to wealth at all; you’re referring to dollars, and there is a monumental difference between the two. Second, I argue that it’s less a problem of some of us having more dollars than others and more a problem of us coveting those dollars and thinking if we were given those dollars, things would be fair.
It is simply not your position in dollars that gives you wealth. Dollars are merely one of many measurements that can be used to gauge your financial position, and it is arguably a quite feeble one at that. Dollars are 100% neutral in their power to leverage your position. They can only serve to augment your position, whether that’s one of wealth or one of poverty. Dollars in the hands of someone lacking wealth will only do more harm than good.
I live well, but I am not a billionaire. If I were, I’d guess many of you would look at all that cash and feel that I owed you something. And you’d be right. But it wouldn’t be the cash that made it so. I owe you now, rich or not. And likewise, you owe me. We all owe each other; we all owe it to others to create value for the people around us. That is real power.
Money Transcends Government
Money transcends government. Money is power. Government merely seeks to control it. Government does not create money. Government is subject to the laws of money, not the other way around. The only thing that transcends money is value. Like electricity follows the path of least resistance, money follows value. It is a law of the world. The United States could outlaw gravity, but gravity would pay no heed. Some things work a certain way, no matter what we wish, no matter what laws governments pass. Governments are not able to create laws of the world, only laws of, well, government.
Wealth resides in your mind. When you seek dollars, you most often are seeking wealth and simply do not understand what money is. Wealth is a product of financial education and an innate understanding of the laws of money. It is why the wealthy so often seem above the law. Remember, the power of money transcends government.
Money is Morally Neutral
It is not an issue of morality. If you create value, money flows to you, period. If you do not create value, money flows away from you, period. It is a law of the world. It has nothing to do with whether or not you’re a good person. Think of value as the path of least resistance…the same path electricity follows. It is governed by natural law, not subjectivity.
We would all do well to neglect worrying about money. To do so is to completely miss the point. Do you think the wealthy worry about money? When Donald Trump lost his billions, do you think he froze up in fear? No. He sweat out the hard times, never waivered and was soon back on top. He followed the value, did more deals, renegotiated his debts and not only made back his billions and then some, he also made many of those around him millions as well. Trump is wealthy and therefore has money. He is not wealthy BECAUSE he has money.
True Wealth Comes from Value, Not Money
As important as it is to understand that currency is not money, it is even more important to understand that money follows value. Value transcends all, and it is something each one of us can offer each other. Will you have to study a lot, work very hard and most likely go through some very lean times in your life in the pursuit of learning how offer real, significant value to others? Most likely. Trump did it (and countless others; he’s just a universally known guy), so why should it be any different for you or me? But when you create true value for others, you build true wealth, you tap into the most powerful assets you have…your time and passion. They are more powerful than dollars, by far. And as soon as you embrace it, you will realize how inconsequential dollars are, and you will be on your way to true wealth.
The pursuit of dollars is worthless; we all know it deep down. The current dollar crisis and economic recession will continue to teach us this until we’ve mostly received the lesson. Let’s learn the lesson for real and move forth from this with an asset that cannot be taken away from us, no matter what the economy does…true wealth.
